The 2017 Land Rover Discovery

If your family is seeking adventure, look no further than the 2017 Land Rover Discovery for your next vehicle. Previously known as the LR4, this crossover has over 11-inches of ground clearance with a 3-foot wading depth, and comfortable seating for up to seven in its redesigned high-class cabin. This is the ideal vehicle for not only our everyday errands, but for your outings to explore as well.

Drivers covet the Discovery’s square-jawed and handsome appearance as well as its off-road performance. It comes with more advanced mechanics than your run-of-the-mill three-row crossovers. However, it isn’t the most fuel-efficient crossover on the market. Land Rover takes this vehicle one step further by offering a complimentary 2-hour off-road-driving course to anyone who purchases a new Discovery model.

The Discovery comes with two engine options: a diesel engine or a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. One big difference between the two engines is that the latter has faster acceleration and an increased towing capacity. The diesel acceleration is good enough to keep up around town and it has a low-down torque that is designed for navigating off-road obstacles. Both engines are eight-speed automatics you control with a rotary shift knob that comes out of the center console after you press the ignition button.

If you know you will be towing some heavy cargo, go with the V-6 engine. It has a maximum towing capacity of 8201 compared to the diesel’s 7716 capacity. On the other hand, the diesel engine offers better fuel economy if you plan on hauling loads over long distances, or if you are frequently on the go.

The base price of the vehicle starts off at $58,000. However, if you want to upgrade to the HSE trim version of the vehicle, you will have to pay an extra $7,000. The HSE trim is considered by experts in the automotive industry to be the best value. The HSE trim adds:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • A backup camera
  • Front parking sensors
  • 10-speaker Meridian stereo
  • 10.2-inch Touch Pro touchscreen infotainment system with navigation
  • A panoramic sunroof with a front panel capable of opening and venting

If you select a 7-seat package, you get a third row of seats that include space for 2 extra passengers. In addition, you will get an adjustable air suspension and a 2-speed transfer case with low range for an extra $2,150. These features add to the Discovery’s ability to handle inclement weather and off-roading terrain.

In the cabin, you will find many useful bins and cubbies for all of your items. From sunglasses to cell phones, there is storage space available for almost everything you need to bring along with you on your adventure, or simply for a day of running errands. If you want to store your valuables out of sight, there is a hidden compartment behind the climate controls on the dashboard. The cabin also comes with a large center-console armrest storage bin that acts like a refrigerator for your snacks and beverages.

Any vehicle designed for adventure needs plenty of space to haul people and gear. Discovery was created with room for your larger items and your small ones alike. If you fold both rear rows, this vehicle becomes the most accommodating in its class for carry-on luggage. However, if you put 7 people in the vehicle, the carry-on capacity dips down to two behind the third row of seats.

What your vehicle holds and how it functions is important, but the way it looks is also important. The 2017 Land Rover Discovery has attractive styling that will stand out amongst other vehicles. It is also a breeze to park and is as maneuverable as its competition. The base SE model has 19-inch wheels and a fixed glass roof that allows everyone inside to see a wide-angle view of the sky, making it even more adventuresome. With the HSE or HSE Luxury trim, you get a panoramic sunroof. The Discovery stays true to the classic Rover designs with its asymmetrical liftgate.

Only a few crossovers might be able to compete with this off-roading family vehicle. Some other features to note are the locking rear differential, low-range gearing, and hill-descent control. For all the features and storage space you get, the Discovery shapes up to be a great crossover vehicle for the family that loves adventure.
